Description
When your old International Harvester is burning oil through the valve guides or you’re hearing that telltale valve chatter at idle, it’s time to get things sorted out. These valve guides are what keep your intake and exhaust valves running true in the cylinder head, and when they wear out, you’ll know it. Oil consumption goes up, power goes down, and that smooth-running engine starts sounding rough around the edges.
What You’re Getting
- Precise bore dimensions that keep valves aligned properly for optimal sealing
- Works for both intake and exhaust applications – one guide design handles both
- Durable construction that handles the constant heat and motion of engine operation
- Direct replacement that installs with standard valve guide tools
Built for Real Farm Work
This guide fits International Harvester 100 series, 200 Series, Super A-1 Series (prior to S/N 310300), Super AV-1 Series (prior to S/N 310300), and Super C Series tractors. These are the workhorses that have been pulling plows, running cultivators, and powering hay equipment for decades. Whether you’re restoring a classic Farmall or keeping a daily-use tractor running strong, proper valve guides are critical for maintaining compression and keeping oil where it belongs.
Made to Last
Valve guides take a beating – they deal with constant valve movement, combustion heat, and oil splash from the crankcase. These guides are manufactured to handle those conditions and maintain their bore dimensions through thousands of hours of operation. The material composition is designed to work with both the harder exhaust valves and softer intake valves without excessive wear.
Installation Notes
Installing valve guides requires removing the cylinder head and using proper guide installation tools to press them into place. Most engines use 8 valve guides total – that’s 2 per cylinder on a 4-cylinder engine. While you’re in there, it’s a good time to check your valve springs, seals, and consider having the valves ground if they’re showing wear. A machine shop can handle the guide installation if you don’t have the right tools.
