Description
When your John Deere’s diesel engine starts losing power, burning oil, or getting harder to start on cold mornings, it’s time to think about more than just an oil change. Hard starting and blue smoke are sure signs those cylinders and pistons have seen better days. This basic in-frame overhaul kit gets your 179 CID three-cylinder diesel back to running strong without the expense and downtime of pulling the whole engine.
What You’re Getting
- Complete set of sleeves and sleeve seals to restore proper compression and oil control
- New pistons, rings, pins, and retainers sized for the 4.19-inch standard bore
- 3-ring piston design that handles the pressure these diesels put out
- Valve-grind gasket set plus oil pan gasket to seal everything up tight
- Tru-Power quality components that meet or exceed original John Deere specifications
Built for Real Farm Work
This kit fits the 179 CID engines found in 2040, 2150, 2240, and 2255 series tractors—the workhorses that handle everything from cultivation and planting to loader work and hay operations. These three-cylinder diesels were built to run all day in tough conditions, and with this rebuild kit, you’ll get many more years of dependable service from your John Deere.
Made to Last
Tru-Power builds their overhaul kits to meet or exceed original specifications because they know these engines work hard for a living. The pistons are built to handle the compression ratios these diesels need, while the gaskets use materials that won’t fail from heat cycling.
Installation Notes
This is a basic in-frame kit, which means the engine stays in the tractor while you rebuild the top end. You’ll need to check connecting rod bolt length and add either TP-R74194 (2.125 inch) or TP-R80033 (2.325 inch) rod bolts separately. This is a complete teardown job that requires machine shop work for cleaning and inspection of cylinder bores and crankshaft journals.
